If you’re curious about artificial turf, take a look at some frequently asked questions and fun facts that our Austin turf experts have compiled.
What Is The Turf Made Of?
Each product can vary slightly so please see our products page where you will find a specification sheet uploaded under each specific artificial turf product. Give us a call if you have any more questions!
Infill or No-Infill?
TexasTurf offers two main product lines of artificial grass. TurfCasa is a high-quality, in-fill required turf (made in Spain), and AGL Grass Texas, is a no-infill required turf (made in Holland). Some benefits of no-infill-needed turf includes: no captured bacteria in the infill system (reducing smells and bacteria) and you can power wash it to clean is as needed (without infill being displaced). AGL Grass Texas is engineered to bounce back by itself with its built-in advanced thatch system. Both turf lines are a great option and your consultant will walk you through the process to decide which turf is best to meet your needs.
Is artificial turf safe?
Yes! Both of our main turf lines, AGL Grass and Turf Casa, are European-made and undergo stringent laboratory testing that satisfy EU standards of safety (which are the strictest in the world). Artificial turf is safe for pets and children.

Is Artificial Turf Pet Friendly?
Your pets will be able to play and run around freely on your artificial turf lawn because the turf will offer adequate drainage so that puddles and mud don’t form. The installation of artificial turf eliminates the need for harsh chemicals that natural lawns might require, protecting your pets from harmful substances.
How Do I Clean Up After My Dog?
Just like a natural lawn, a lawn made from artificial turf should be cleaned up after you spend some time outdoors. Removing solid waste regularly is essential because the longer it remains on the turf, the more contaminants will penetrate the turf system. Solid waste should be removed using the appropriate materials, and loose waste can be removed with gloves, cleaned with spot treaters, and rinsed with water. Solid waste should be removed immediately in wet weather, but it can be left alone for a longer period of time in dry weather. Your lawn should also be sanitized and deodorized for urine occasionally.
Pet owners should also spray spots with disinfectant if their pets are sick to keep the illness from spreading, and they should irrigate their artificial turf lawns at least once a week to wash cleaning treatments into the turf systems during dry weather. Loose turf pieces on wood, concrete, and other hard surfaces should be cleaned regularly, and organic debris such as leaves and twigs should be kept off of turf so that solid waste can be identified easily.
How Do You Install Artificial Turf?
TexasTurf first removes the top layer of grass/vegetation. After that step, we cover the entire project area with 2-3 inches of decomposed granite. The install crew levels and compacts the decomposed granite sub base. TexasTurf works with the existing grade of the yard unless otherwise specified between the homeowner and consultant. After the baselayer is installed and compacted, TexasTurf installation crew lays out the turf to precisely fit the project area. During the next step, they cut the turf and nail the perimeter with 4-6 inch non-galvanized nails. The non-galvanized nails will rust over time, forming a one-entity-unit with the turf, nails and subbase layer. After this step, TexasTurf will install infill (as needed and based on your turf selection) and power groom the turf. The crew will then pick up any trash, and your personal consultant will walk through the final project with you making sure you are satisfied with the transformation.
Do I Need to prep anything in advance for my TexasTurf Installation?
Please have your driveway clear for delivery of materials (unless you specify otherwise with your consultant). Please be present at the beginning of the installation to walk through the project with the crew leader, and at the end of the project to walk through with the consultant/crew leader. Feel free to communicate to your consultant at any point throughout the project. Otherwise, sit back, relax and enjoy the transformation!

Will Turf Help With A Lawn’s Mud Problem?
Installing an artificial turf lawn means that you won’t have to worry about standing water or erosion, and your pets won’t be tracking mud into your home anymore.
Will Turf Eliminate Weeds?
Because the backing of your turf lawn prevents the penetration of vegetation through the turf system, you’ll be able to keep most weeds under control. Only the most aggressive weeds are able to grow through drainage holes in the turf.
Will Artificial Turf Reduce The Presence Of Bugs?
Because artificial turf often resolves drainage problems on lawns, you won’t have to worry about attracting insects with pooling water. With less insects on your property, you’ll reduce the health risk caused by insect bites, and you won’t have to purchase insecticides to limit the presence of bugs.
How Much Does Artificial Turf Cost?
The cost of your turf system will be determined by the square footage of the area you wish to cover with turf as well as key factors such as accessibility, turf type, pre-existing vegetation, slope, and upgraded infills.
Although the up-front cost of your turf system might be high, you’ll begin to accrue cost savings as your water bill declines and the money that you spend on landscaping, fertilizers, and pesticides decreases. If you’re curious about how much your artificial turf project will cost, give TexasTurf a call to consult with our turf experts.
Will Installing Artificial Turf Help Increase Property Values?
If you decide to invest in quality landscaping, then you could add significant value to your property that could be double the cost of your investment. Properties with low maintenance and eco-friendly artificial turf lawns are desired by many potential buyers.
Is Turf Environmentally Friendly?
For homeowners and business owners, artificial turf is a great option because it requires less water, pesticides, and fertilizers than natural lawns. The U.S. Green Building Council considers artificial turf to be a sustainable building material because of this decreased water and chemical use.
Rebates and credits are available to some homeowners and business owners who install artificial turf lawns in some cities. Along with these environmental benefits, artificial turf lawns provide convenience because maintenance is minimal. If you install artificial turf, you won’t have to worry about harming the environment or spending countless hours seeding, mowing, and edging your lawn.
Why Should I Choose Artificial Turf?
The reasons to install artificial turf on your lawn are numerous, and they include the cost savings, environmental friendliness, low maintenance, longevity, superior drainage, time savings, visual appeal, and durability associated with turf products. Artificial turf eliminates the need for watering and mowing, saving you money on water bills and lawnmower repairs and reducing air pollution caused by lawnmowers.
With the installation of an artificial turf lawn, you could save up to 660,000 gallons of water over 15 years, and you won’t have to worry about pulling weeds. The infill products that TexasTurf uses are non-toxic, so they’re safe for children, pets, and the environment. Artificial turf drains and dries faster than natural grass, and it keeps its vibrant color all year long. It’s designed to resist wear and tear caused by heavy traffic, and you won’t have to schedule an artificial turf replacement for a long time, sometimes up to 15 years.
